If you aren’t sure where to start, start small, in a powder room, or laundry room. Make sure you like your color choice. Paint is relatively inexpensive to change, but it a look less daunting if you chose a small area.

Consider how you want to feel when you are in the room. If you want a restful, and relaxing atmosphere, you might want neutrals, or soft, cool colors, they will generally give off a soothing vibe.  Strong colors will be more dramatic, so you might want to put those in high energy areas.

How do you want a dining room to feel, stimulating and social or appear formal? Warmer, contrasting and somewhat brighter colors will set a sociable tone, while deeper blue-greens and neutrals will set a more formal ambiance.

Choosing the correct color for a child’s room is also very important. Some bright colors can lead to irritability and lack of sleep. You may want to choose fun colors that can still be comforting to a child to help create a calm environment to promote sleep.

A color can change the way you feel, and change the way your home feels. It is one of the easiest things to change if you don’t love it, but it still might be the most simple to bring home sample cards and hang them on your wall so you can see it at different times of the day.
